World Fighting Game Characters: Europe Part 1 South Europe

Italians like Tekken's Claudio Serafino, King of Fighter's Robert Garcia and Soul Calibur's Voldo

They say that the fighting game community (FGC) is one of the most diverse fan communities within the videogame industry. But not only is the community diverse. So are the characters in each game as many intend to represent a country and usually the martial art of said country. So we wanna list how diverse the Characters of fighting games are. To be clear the games that we will include feature characters who debut from these games. So no Injustice or Marvel vs Capcom or Smash Brothers characters. Just characters created for fighting games.

UN Geoscheme of Europe. South Europe in Green

As Europe is a very heavily represented region in the fighting game franchise. We decided to see which parts of Europe gets the most rep and which countries in each European regions. Also saves space as this article would be too long. So here we use the UN Geoscheme for Europe which divides Europe into for four regions. South, East, West and North Europe. Here we will cover South Europe to start with. We are covering character from South Europe according to the UN Geoscheme definition and we will also acknowledge ethnic minorities and diaspora communities such as a Spaniard living in the UK can count.

(Deimos is a Greek name meaning Dreaded from the Greek Deity Deimos)

(Same as his brother Gill. A lot of his motifs borrow from Mediterranean cultures and Asian cultures. He also is listed as Pankration fighter)

(She can use black magic to summon a medusa head as an attack. It is likely she is based off Greek witches)

(He is the greek god of thunder)

(The name Dregan is usually spelled as Dragan a Serbian name meaning Dear Beloved)

Johnny Cage From Mortal Kombat

(In Mortal Kombat X Johnny Cage discovers that he is distantly descended from a Mediterranean warrior cult who were "selectively bred for the Gods". So he gets an honourary mention as someone of Mediterranean descent)



Cassie Cage From Mortal Kombat

(She also inherits the God busting energy from her Father's Mediterranean ancestry so by proxy she gets an honourary mention as a Mediterranean American, bonus points her first name Cassie is short for Cassandra a Greek name)
