Resident Evil 8: VIllage: Details and Images
Updated: Nov 4
Capcom have been on a roll lately with their franchises. Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil 7 have captured the attention of their fans and with their gorgeously stunning RE engine for the motion and facial capture. They are heading in the right direction. Last night at the PS5 event we got our first look at Resident Evil 8: VIllage.
What's The Story?
Resident Evil 8 appears to be set a few years after Resident Evil 7 with Ethan Winters returning as the playable protagonist in a first person survival horror experience. Ethan and his wife Mia Winters are living together after their grueling experiences from the previous game. With a baby on the way things look up for them. Until an unexpected but familiar face shows up and Ethan's life is upside down again. Hallucinations, occultism, insanity and not being able to trust others are huge themes of the game" and also noted that RE7 protagonist Ethan Winters would return to fend off “werewolves” in a “snowy village.
Where Is The Game Set?
The game's story unsurprisingly is set in a remote village if the VIllage title didn't already bait it out. Unlike RE7, we are no longer exploring the claustrophobic halls and suffocating rooms within the Baker family home. We are now stuck out in the open, exposed to the cold and dark wilderness with fear of the unknown. Locations to explore on a snow covered mountain and forest near a desolated village, castles, caves and cabins. The return of a first-person perspective will bring a visceral edge to combat, as well. Each encounter is a personal fight for survival against terrifying foes, forcing you to keep a watchful eye on the environment and constantly looking for resources and enemies in unknown territory.
Who Will Be In The Game?
As we know poor Ethan Winter's will have to go through a new slice of hell in the Resident Evil world having to deal will a supernatural feel of a mysterious Occult which will tie into the Connections from RE7 who were responsible for the events that took place and will likely influence the occultic imagery in Resident Evil 8. There will be a Second Playable character of the name Emily who is likely the voice in the trailer telling Ethan the story about the "Rascal" and her family. Emily is said to be the female protagonist in the game looking for her father and will assist Ethan.
The games villain appears to be a Count apparently with the name Alan R and he will lead an Occult against Ethan not unlike Salazar from Resident Evil 4. Some of the unique enemies we can expect will be a departure from the classic zombies, mutants and Bio-Organic Weapons (aka BOWS). It is unknown if Ethan will encounter help from a certain village merchant with a questionable Aussie accent.
Instead we are getting a Witches and what appears to be Beastmen looking similar to Werewolves or Wendigos. Also a similar creature to the Ganados of Resident Evil 4 will appear in the game as well so beware of the wolverine claws if you know.
However the biggest surprise in the trailer was the appearance of Resident Evil Veteran hero Chris Redfield returns looking darker than his previous appearance. He seems to be antagonistic towards Ethan, shooting what appears to be Mia and as we saw in the previous game he is no longer working for the B.S.A.A and is now working for Neo-Umbrella. Has Chris Redfield turned Evil?
