Meet Marvel Comics New Asian Superhero!
Updated: Oct 29, 2020
Meet Fadi Fadlallah aka Amulet. He is expected to debut in Marvel comics in March this year in 'Magnificent Ms.Marvel'. Created by author Saladin Ahmed and Illustrator Sara Alfageeh. He is expected to assist fellow Asian American Muslim hero Kamala Khan aka Ms.Marvel against a Kree named Stormranger.
Powerset wise Amulet will be a hulking ally who is magically powered by his amulet (obviously), to have superhuman strength. Sara had told ScreenRant: "Saladin let me have a lot of fun with this concept"
"We talked about his defensive-style powers and how they tied into his background as a Lebanese kid. The blue and white colour palette and the circular design were pulled from the Nazar, a Symbol that pops up all over the Middle East that protects the wearer from the Evil Eye - the harmful intentions of others."
According to reports his powers are magical in nature and he is from Dearborn, Michigan and of Lebanese descent. He is not the first Asian muslim hero to originate from Michigan as DC Hero Simon Baz is also a Lebanese American Muslim from Dearborn Michigan, which is fairly accurate due to Detroit having a significant Arab, Asian and Muslim population.
Coincidently his powers originating from his Amulet plays similar comparisons to Zari and Behrad Tomaz from DC Legends of Tomorrow who are both empowered by their amulets and happen to be Asian and Muslim (Iranian in their case but comics counterpart are non muslim, white and empowered by Egyptian dieties Isis and Osiris)
Another vague simiilarity to another hero is Nawaf Al-Bilali aka Jabbar from Teshkeel comics the 99 who is a large muscular Saudi Arabian lad with super strength and massive height caused by being empowered by his Noor Stone.
With Disney planning to release a Ms.Marvel series. We can hope to add Fadi alongside Aamir, Kamran, Kareem and of course Kamala herself onto the list of Marvels growing Asian and Muslim heroes that could appear in live action!
