Updated: Jun 16
A new romcom set out to solve a crime they did not commit after one of their dates get highjacked.!
It is considerably rare to see a romantic film not only featuring Ethnic minority leads but specifically one where the ethnicity of the actors and characters were not factored into the initial story, According to lead actress Issa Rae the casting of an African woman and a South Asian man was not intended for the film. But clearly the ethnicity of the actors are acknowledged by the characters names being more common for an African-American woman and a South Asian man.
“Initially they were written for white people which, plot-wise, would have been a different story. It’s not a story about race but we wanted to acknowledge our race and the fact that we’re an interracial couple.” -Issa Rae
“The aspects I love the most are the rare moments of sweetness between the two leads. They spend so much of the movie bickering that the hints of what they used to be are my favorite.” -Kumail Nanjiani
