For anyone who doesn't know about Charles Sobhraj, well he has gone by many names and been given many aliases. Whilst he was a manipulative cunning con man, thief and fraudster he earned the names the Bikini Killer (due to his earliest victims clothes) and the Splitting Killer and The Serpent due to his skill at deception and evasion. Check out the trailer if you haven't already.
Born in Saigon, Veitnam to an Indian Father Hatchand Sobhraj and Vietnamese Mother Tran Loang Phun. He grew up mostly in France where he was notoriously known for being intelligent and charismatic but also extremely rebelious and involved in petty crime such as burglary before he took things further. He had criminal career spaning from 1963-1997 over the course of several countries such as Thailand, Nepal, India, Malaysia, France, Afghanistan, Turkey and Greece. He was well read, fluent in at least 7 languages and capable of winning their trust with ease.
The Netflix show will be starring French Algerian actor Tahar Rahim as the titual criminal. Tahar is fluent in at least French, English and Arabic, he is best known for his roles as Mailk in the Prophet, Prince Auda in Black Gold, Khalil in The Last Panther, Ali Soufan in The Looming Tower and Judas in Mary Magdelene. So we can expect a lil polyglot charisma a la Navid Negahban as Amahl Farouk in Legion.
Joining him will be an international cast with Indian Pravesh Rana, British Jenna Coleman (Clara from Dr Who), Ruby Ashbourne Serkis (Andy Serkis' Daughter), Ellie Bamber, Thais Chicha Amatayakul and Sahajak Boonthanakit to name a few.
