The CW's 'Batwoman' May No Longer be 'Kate Kane'
Updated: Nov 4, 2020
Shocking news that Ruby Rose has decided to quit the role of Kate Kane aka Batwoman portraying the character for one season. Whilst this means the show will have to continue without her. They are not looking to recast Kate Kane, rather they will replace her with a new character. New casting details seem to point at the potential of a new character to replace her of the name Ryan Wilder.
According to this article, Ryan Wilder "is about to become Batwoman. She's likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She's also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical All-American hero."
Whilst this new character leaves us with loose ends such as Kate Kane being Bruce Wayne's cousin and having authority over the Wayne family fortune and company. She also has built rapport with her friend Luke Fox, her resident smart guy and has her evil twin sister as the primary antagonist. With a new character taking the mantle of Batwoman it's likely the only thing that will remain the same is Luke Fox as an ally but the connection to the Wayne Family and the villain may have to be dropped. Likely will be handwaved as a side effect of Crisis on Infinite Earth may have changed history enough for Kate Kane to leave the cowl behind now.
While it is unknown who will play "Ryan Wilder" or who she is based off most theories point to her being based off previous Batgirls: Cassandra Cain aka Blackbat, Stephanie Brown aka Spoiler, Harper Row aka Bluebird, Bette Kane aka Flamebird, Charlotte Gage-Radcliffe aka Misfit and of course Barbara Gordon aka Oracle.
We may cover the possibilities of which "Batgirl" will be the main influence of Ryan Wilder for the next season of Batwoman. Tweet us @thecsnetwork to lets us know who you think will be CW's next Batwoman.
